Balklavalhau was born as the result of a group of people from various corners of the world who started meeting regularly during 2020 at an old tavern in Porto, Portugal, sharing their knowledge and passion for Balkan, Turkish & Middle Eastern musical heritage.
After realizing how well they understood each other within these languages, they decided to develop themselves further as a band. Henceforth, they started working their own original compositions as well, mostly based upon Balkan traditional music, but also bringing the folk heritage from their own & others, such as flamenco, chilean cueca, slavic polyphonies, etc.
So far, the band has toured Poland, Portugal, Spain and Belgium, releasing one EP in 2023. They will be touring Macedonia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia & Cyprus during July & August 2025.
